BLUE STOCKING is noted for its unusual violet-blue flowers. It typically grows 2-3’ (less frequently to 4’) tall. Tubular, two-lipped, violet-blue flowers are borne in dense, globular, terminal heads atop stiff square stems clad with serrate, ovate to lanceolate, dark green leaves (3-6” long). Long summer bloom period (July-August in St. Louis). Flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, particularly when massed. Flowers, stems and leaves are aromatic.
